Sunday Women: An Extract in State of Concept, Athens
7/4/2022 - 21/5/2022
Group exhibition Waste/ d Pavillion 1st Episode by Temporary Academy of Arts
Sunday Women : An extract follows the historical thread that connects the role of immigrant domestic workers of today with the history of female labor in Greek society as expressed through the (not so) distant institution of the “psychokori” : a figure of Greek society concerning underage girls of lower social classes. The institution was a form of unpaid housework or a form of slavery. This historical search provides a mark for the deeply exploitative relationship of Greek society with women's work and explores how the exploitation of migrant women concerns us all.

A portrait of domestic work, as experienced by Georgian live-in maids working in Greece. It explores the monotonous, demanding, and unseen labor behind care work, and the isolation and insecurity experienced by women who must work to serve others. 24 hours a day, 6 days a week, with only one Sunday off.

Photography Exhibition : 17 photographers – 60 photographs
Ordinary Women
This exhibition is dedicated to the average, typical and ordinary women.
As we all know, the social demands for “perfect” bodies and an “impeccable” attitude weigh especially upon women. So long as we look around us (and inside ourselves) at the millions of stereotypical pictures of the woman’s “perfection” that overflow the city, the tv, the internet, the magazines: the super woman that has it all and does it all – and is a bargain.
On the other hand, the 60 photographs of this exhibition aspire to show ordinary women, in real life: girls, women, mothers, housewives, old women, all of them being ordinary human beings of this world. These women are so ordinary as the situations we face in our everyday life.
At the same time, there is no doubt that they are unusual and unique: they are the (extra)ordinary women.
The exhibition was organized by me, old and current students and friends: Alex, Kiriaki Arabantzi, Stratos Arvanitis, Sofia Vikatou, Dimosthenis Giannakos, Dimitra Kakka, Istyl, Stavroula Karle, Giannis Kafkas, Tatiana Mavromati, Despina Papakonstantinou, Vasia Paparouni, Panagiotis Petrovatzis, Stratos Pavlelis, Anna Tagkalou, Sylvia Tsobanaki, Katerina Fafouti
